Water Island is a small residential island with less than 200 permanent residents. The first hotel on the island, the Water Island Hotel, opened in the 50s and it was eventually renamed the Sea Cliff Resort. Unfortunately, the Sea Cliff was destroyed in 1989 by Hurricane Hugo and was not rebuilt. There are plans to build another 5-star hotel and resort on the spot where the Sea Cliff once stood.
